BSc (Hons) in Acupuncture

Three-year (full-time) course and four-year (part-time) course - features and attendance

Our BSc (Hons) in Acupuncture is designed for busy people. You can choose to study over three or four years and at weekends or weekdays. The NCA is currently the only teaching institution where students living in England, who already have a degree, can access student funding on our four-year (part-time) course.

The course is a blend of in-College teaching, live online teaching, e-learning at times that suit you, home study, and clinical learning at the NCA teaching clinic

You are learning in clinic from the outset

Your final award will be a BSc (Hons) in Acupuncture awarded by the NCA and the Health Sciences University

You will be eligible to apply for membership of the prestigious British Acupuncture Council when you complete your degree

Three-year (full-time) BSc (Hons) in Acupuncture

Our three-year course is popular with students for whom this is their first degree. It is designed to fit around (part-time) work and life. This is a rigourous academic degree as well as a practitioner training and you need to be fully aware of the level of commitment that you need to succeed on the course.

Attendance

Weekday option - in-person attendance

In Year 1, our Weekday Cohort consists of 44 half-day morning in-person sessions in college during the week – blocks of 22 Thursday mornings and 22 Friday mornings, on average four or six mornings per month, at our York campus. You will also have 15 Microsoft Teams sessions (half days) on Thursday/Friday mornings for cohorts starting in 2026, roughly two per month. You’ll also do five clinic days on weekdays throughout the year in our clinics in Greater Manchester, London or York.

Weekend option - in-person attendance

In Year 1, our Weekend Cohort consists of 11 full weekends in-person in college (all day Saturday and Sunday), roughly once per month, at our York campus. You will also have 15 Microsoft Teams sessions (half days) on Saturday mornings, on average two per month. You’ll also do five clinic days on weekdays throughout the year in our clinics in Greater Manchester, London or York.

Attendance in Years 2 and 3

In Year 2 on our full-time course:

If you’re a Weekend student you’ll do 8 weekends in person at our York campus between October and June, roughly one weekend per month. You’ll also have 24 Microsoft Teams sessions between October and May, roughly four sessions per month at weekends.

If you’re a Weekday student you’ll do 32 weekday mornings in person at our York campus, roughly 4 mornings per month. You’ll also have 24 Microsoft Teams sessions between October and May, roughly four sessions per month on weekdays.

Similarly to Year 1, you’ll also have pre-recorded online learning materials in between these taught sessions.

In Year 3:

If you’re a Weekend student you’ll do 5.5 weekends in person at our York campus between October and June, less than one weekend per month on average. You’ll also have 35 Microsoft Teams sessions between October and May, roughly four sessions per month at weekends.

If you’re a Weekday student you’ll do 21 weekday mornings in person at our York campus, less than four mornings per month on average. You’ll also have 35 Microsoft Teams sessions between October and May, roughly four sessions per month on weekdays.

Similarly to Year 1 and 2, you’ll also have pre-recorded online learning materials in between these taught sessions.

Online attendance

If you attend with our Weekday cohort, you will have online Microsoft Teams teaching in addition to your in-person attendance. Teams teaching sessions follow the same hours as the in-person teaching sessions, but are delivered either at weekends or weekdays depending on your cohort.

Clinic attendance

Your clinic days are extra to your classroom teaching. These are 5 days in Year 1, 15 days in Year 2 and 25 days in Year 3. In Years 1 & 2 you will also be arranging Practitioner Observation Visits with other practitioners.

Full-time student funding

If you have not already accessed student funding you can apply for a full-time tuition fee to help to pay for the course.

Four-year (part-time) BSc (Hons) in Acupuncture

If you already have a degree and would like to access student funding, have work or other commitments which would make studying full time over three years difficult, or if you would like to work more hours and spread the cost - we offer a four-year (part-time) study option. This means taking the BSc (Hons) in Acupuncture over four years instead of three.
